Hi -- I'm a single w/a 13-year old considering adoption from Ukraine (among other places). I'm getting mixed messages about singles' eligibility -- some agencies say married couples only; others say singles are OK. Does anyone know what's going on?

Singles have to be approved by CIS before starting process. Married is an Agency regulations. |

With international adoption there are two factors to be worked out, finding a country that accepts singles, and to find an agency that works with singles. Some people select a country first, then look for an agency that works in that country and accepts single parents. Others select an agency first and let them help in the selection of a country. And, just to make it extra complicated, countries sometimes change their requirements! One place to check out is Rainbow Kids where there is lots of info about international adoption.
Besides Ukraine, what other countries are you considering? Susan |

At the moment, I'm also considering Russia & Kazakhstan, and I'd certainly be happy to have feedback about those countries as well! (But their policy on single mothers seems more straightforward than Ukraine's.)

Kazahstan requires that you have an income level of $50,000 per year. |
