Hi all... I am new here, but I thought I would talk about what is currently going on in my life and see what you all think.
I was raped by someone I thought was a friend when I was 20 and later when I found out i was expecting I decided to be responsible and keep my baby and raise her on my own. When I gave birth to my daughter I was single so I decided to give her my last name. A month after she was born I met Anthony. Anthony and I were married 7 months before my daughter's 2nd birthday.
Since then we have had a son (who is now 4) and things have been going pretty well till recently.
My Daughter who is now 6 just started first grade. For some reason my Husband and Mother in Law are very upset that my Daughter is not using There last name in school. See, I decided when she was born that I would always be truthful with her about how she came to be mine...age apropreatley of course. And Anthony and I agreed that when she was old enough she would be allowed to make the decision of Anthony giving her his last name herself.
Now after talking to his mother he has decided that it is wrong to tell her anything and he needs to adopt her as soon as possible. I am so angry at both my hubby and his Mom...I still believe that my daughter deserves the truth and she should be able to make up her own mind on wether or not she wants to be adopted. I think 6 is to young to decide...maybe if she were 10 or older, but not 6. I keep thinking "what if we hide the facts of her birth and then she ends up with some sickness when she is older that is related to the biological father...she would have to be told then." I don't want her to ever feel betrayed by us, or lied to for that matter. I know I have the most rights, and I never thought I would have to play the legal rights card just to do what I think is best for my girl, but I am running out of ideas and patients. I was hoping to find stories of people who knew about there biological parents from the start and some who found out about them later on in there adult life. That way I could find out what there reactions were so I can decide if I have a valid arguement with my Hubby and his family or if I am just being selfish as they say.
Thanks!
