I've been mentoring this kiddo for 2+ years, and am about to move across the country for grad school. He doesn't have any other hope of permanent placement, so his caseworker is supportive of me taking him with me. Because of the move things are more complicated. There was a new law passed that became effective July 1, which greatly expands the definition of "relative." B/c of the long-term relationship I've had with this kiddo, I'd fall under the new definition, which may allow me to bypass a lot of the foster parent licensing stuff. Crossing my fingers on that, b/c I don't want him to be waiting here for 6 months with a knot in his throat.

I had a team meeting w/his caseworker last week, and meet with his mom and the caseworker on Wed. I'm a bit nervous about that...
